Dalianxiang is a kind of primitive and folk entertainment which has spread for a long time. It is also known as the King's Whip, Lotus Stick, Hunshenxiang, etc.. Usually one or more people hold the Lianxiang stick, dancing with music. Its history can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Warring States Period(BC770-BC221) when it was a bamboo tube shaped or whip-like musical instrument. Nowadays, as a literary expression style, it is mainly prevalent in urban and rural areas of Shanghai.
