This course is expected to allow the primary managers (greenhands or those with about three-year experience) and other learners the chance to recognize leadership from the perspective of personality, mentality, and identity and help them build basic skills needed for effective communication and teamwork. The course is developed based on the demands of enterprises for the training of primary leaders and is easy to learn and to be put into practice. It covers three main stages of leadership development in primary management, which are shown as the follows. First, knowing about yourself, including self-assessment of leadership, and personal characteristics; second, knowing about others, including the concepts of leadership, and the styles of leadership; third, leading others, including communication skills, incentive, team building, and coping with transformation flexibly. It is hoped that students would enhance their leadership and boast their desires for continuous self-improvement after the course.
Module 1: Leadership related theories 1. Understand the 5 levels of leadership 2. Briefly describe the five basic elements of leadership 3. Understanding the contingency theory of leadership
Module 2: Leadership characteristics 1. Describe the Big Five Personality Dimensions 2. Explain the common characteristics of effective leaders 3. List the classification of leadership styles and master the leadership grid theory
Module 3: Power: The Art of Influence 1. Explain the different types of power 2. Discuss the influence of charismatic leaders on subordinates
Module 4: Leadership and Employment 1. Master the principles and methods of leadership employment 2. Understand the art of leadership employment
Module 5: Incentive 1. Understand the 3 main motivational theories 2. Master the methods of strengthening theories to motivate employees
Module 6: Communication 1. Explain the main process of information transmission 2. Master communication skills in different situations
Module 7: Teamwork 1. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of teamwork 2. Understand 3 common team types
Completing all learning activities of this course means passing the assessment of this course.
